About Ronald

Ronald Vles was born in Rotterdam in The Netherlands. He has been drawing and painting from his early youth. He studied law and became a solicitor (advocaat). When he backpacked through Latin America with only a sketchbook in his backpack in the 70ties he was so influenced by the overwhelming colors, that he bought himself his first aquarelle set and started making his first water color paintings.

Since the 80ties he concentrated more and more on aquarelles and followed a few workshops specialized in water color technics, among other in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Ronald likes that technic because it enables him to sit down in nature and put down in a relatively short time not only what he sees but also what he feels. He specialized further in landscapes, in acrylic and in water colors. For his work as an international business lawyer he travelled all over the world and always brought his water color set with him and tried to find time to sit down on a beautiful and inspiring spot to paint. The last years he spends more and more time painting.

Ronald has had more than 40 exhibitions, mostly in The Netherlands at various locations. Furthermore in South Africa, in Paris and in the South of France, Sweden, China and Japan. He participated three times in the “Painters Week Domburg”, a private initiative supported by the municipality, where figurative painters from The Netherlands and from all round the world are invited for a week to paint the Domburg environment. The week always ends with exhibitions that stay for the whole summer. His work has been exhibited in the “Marie Tak van Poort” Museum in Domburg, The Netherlands.
